The Interstellar Gate Project, created by the joint investment of OpenAI, Soft Silver, Oracle and the Investment Corporation MGX, is considered to be the defining technology of the twenty-first century, yet the project, which has invested more than $500 billion in AI, has been mired in a disagreement between its core participants, OpenAI, and the Soft Silver Group.

Back in January this year, Trump announced the launch of the Interstellar Gate Project, which promises to invest at least $500 billion over four years to build AI infrastructure. The plan was originally designed to unite a number of technology enterprises, including OpenAI, Soft Silver, Oracle and the United Arab Emirates ‘ AI giant MGX. But the project actually evolved into a two-headed, OpenAI and soft silver-led pattern.
According to the latest report of the Wall Street Journal, differences between the two giants are destroying the super-project. At the beginning of this year, both sides made a high-profile announcement that they would “immediately” invest US$ 100 billion, prompting Mask to question publicly: “They didn’t invest any money at all”. Half a year later, the two giants have reduced their annual investment targets significantly, agreeing only to establish a small data centre in Ohio by 2025.

To make matters worse, no data centre agreement has so far been established within the framework of the Interstellar Gate Plan. OpenAI is said to have refused to build infrastructure on the associated plots of SB Energy, an energy company under a soft silver flag. At the same time, despite the fact that soft silver holds the brand name of the “Stargate”, OpenAI uses the brand name unavoidably in its own data centre projects such as Abilin/Danton, Texas.
It’s interesting to see that OpenAI, which is out of silver, is working on the data centre layout: The recent signing of the 4.5-giva power supply agreement with Oracle and the payment in three years will amount to $30 billion (OpenAI CEO Ortman had disclosed that a $100 billion investment would be required for the 5-giva data centre) and a new agreement with the GPU cloud service provider, CoreWeave, to add $4 billion to the original $11.9 billion in cooperation.

In the first half of 2024 alone, the total value of the data centre agreement signed by OpenAI on its own amounted to $100 billion, meeting the investment target of the Interstellar Gate Plan for 2025. None of these projects explicitly included the participation of soft silver. Although the parties have recently declared that “a total of 10 giva data centres will be built in the United States in the coming years”, there has been a lack of concrete progress on all commitments to date.
