According to India Today, a 14-year-old boy in the Ashyana region of Lucknow, India, who had played cell phone games late in the night, was reprimanded by his mother Kumodini for “not focusing on learning”. Shortly after the clash with his mother, the young man was found committing suicide in his room.
Later that day, Kumodini discovered that the young man was using a hanging fan in her room, and she reportedly fainted as a result of shock. More distressingly, this family from Orissa just moved to Lucknow in May because of the transfer of the father of the boy, a Central Armed Police Force-CRPF officer.
The boy was a second-born at home and attended a local private school, while his brother lived in Orissa with his grandparents. There are currently no formal complaints from the family. The police had investigated the tragedy, but had not yet discovered any suspicion of crimes.
Nevertheless, the incident was painful and reflected a worrying trend — a game that was supposed to be fun and ended in tragedy. Such incidents should not occur in the current era, and parents should pay greater attention to the mental health of their children.
Such incidents appear to be becoming more widespread in India and around the globe, showing that games such as ” Jedi for Life ” and ” Free Fire ” often lead to family tragedies. While Governments may strengthen regulation, in fact, deeper solutions may be needed.
